Remembering....

One of the things that my grandma and I talked about in these last months was making sure my kids, Drew and Lilly, will still know all about her after she has moved onto her luxurious suite in heaven. So I will make sure her memory will live on beyond pictures. I will talk about her plenty…..so why not start right now?

There is so much to miss about her.

But for me……

At our many family gatherings, when she wanted my attention…it would go a little something like this- “ Diana, Susan, Vicki, Christi, Nikki - SORRY!! I MEAN LINDSEY” It’s a lot of girls to keep track so I don’t blame her.

I will miss her calling and leaving 8 minute long messages on my answering machine telling me to read the Dear Abby or Ann Landers in the newspaper, and then while telling me where to look and which page to look up, she decides to just read the article on the answering machine until she gets cut off. (sometimes she would call back to make sure she finished the article)

I will miss my expensive PG&E bills with her request to keep the temperature at our house a cozy 84 degrees.

I will miss the daily breads coming in the mail w/ yellow sticky notes attached to the front with a hand written message from her. And in case you didn’t know my grandma could literally write 5 paragraph essays on a post-its.

I will miss her hilarious stories she told when I would call and be overwhelmed with having twins of my own, and she always reminded me that she had (and I quote) “I had the twins and your mother all under 3 by myself up in Oregon with no family around to help…and Lindsey….you know how your mother can be.”

I will miss her yellow wardrobe that always brightened a room like her sense of humor and her smile. And honestly it was just a bonus to me that she dressed my grandpa in a coordinating outfit. I will do my best to wear yellow like her, but NO ONE can pull off GOLD KEDS like she could.

The world will be dimmer without her, (but to steal Vicki’s line)…heaven will be brighter. ☺

Excuse me, it's the last day of February?

...and I have not blogged at all about February. This month should not pass with out a mention of Valentines day. The kids worked hard on their valentines and signed all 18 valentines by themselves. Drew of course chose star wars theme, and Mickey Mouse clubhouse for Lilly. They were homemade, with a 4 year olds touch, and they were very proud of their creations. (no picture below so be warned)

Nana and Boppa filled us with love and calories as Lilly and Drew made 24 vday cupcakes with sprinkles and lots of pink frosting. We enjoyed them (and shared them) for many days after vday.

Can you FEEL the sugar in this next picture?

An another note for February, Todd was away for valentines day, helping out at our church's youth snow camp, but did not forget to leave a secret-hidden gift for me. The will power was so strong by Lilly and Drew that literally as Todd was pulling out of the driveway, they yell, "mommy...mommy...there is a present from daddy under Drew's bed. let's go get it"

My type of kids.

Wintersong 2011

So much fun sledding!! We started out as beginning just in our backyard, but graduated (or got bored) to bigger and better hills.

Now that will give us some speed!

Up the wooden hill....

Ready with Daddy to tackle the big one.

Stop growing up please Drew

A rare picture with my little ones

Waiting her turn and very excited for the her turn to fly

Hooked in and ready for take off

Flying high

Where is Drew you ask? It was so sad, but Drew stayed in that line (probably 25 minutes sitting and waiting) and right as it was about to be his turn, I look over and he is crying and saying his head hurts. And sure enough......fever was present and he really did not feel well at all. So next year, Bigness will get a shot at this!

Special days with Yaya

And now....guest writer Laura Petersen

Hello blogosphere!

Some may know me, some may not. But I am affectionately referred as Yaya by Drew and Lilly. Now, I am not a Grandmother has the Greek definition of “Yaya” implies but rather Todd’s younger sister.

When it comes to Christmas presents I like to think outside the box. I like to arrange “memories” with my little ones. This year I decided it was time for Lilly to experience her first pedicure and for Drew to polish up his mini golf skills.

First was Lilly’s special day. I picked up an excited little girl and we went to Mary’s Pizza and feasted on meatballs and breadsticks. During our time at Indulgence Nail Spa, Lilly sat in complete awe of the magic that was unfolding before her eyes: foot soaking, nail filing, purple painted toes and the best surprise of all … a little flower on both her big toes. I loved watching my little Lilly be such a “big girl” and the sweet glance she would give me to see if she was doing it right.

Drew’s special day was next. We dined at the finest of establishments, Burger King. The entire way to Burger King I desperately tried to change his mind. “Are you sure you want to eat at Burger King? We can go anywhere you want. Cyrus? The French Laundry? Mary’s Pizza … again? Anywhere?” But Drew enjoyed his chicken tenders while I nibbled on a salad and was secretly thankful that Drew does not like French fries. Once at Scandia Drew and I sprinted through the mini golf course. I could see Drew’s excitement for the outing because he was so excited about what was to come next that he barely took in the present. After golf we tried our hand at arcade games.

I love these memories with my little ones. They grow up so fast and it is such a priority for me to consistently invest in my favorite twins.
