One of the things that my grandma and I talked about in these last months was making sure my kids, Drew and Lilly, will still know all about her after she has moved onto her luxurious suite in heaven. So I will make sure her memory will live on beyond pictures. I will talk about her plenty…..so why not start right now?
There is so much to miss about her.
But for me……
At our many family gatherings, when she wanted my attention…it would go a little something like this- “ Diana, Susan, Vicki, Christi, Nikki - SORRY!! I MEAN LINDSEY” It’s a lot of girls to keep track so I don’t blame her.
I will miss her calling and leaving 8 minute long messages on my answering machine telling me to read the Dear Abby or Ann Landers in the newspaper, and then while telling me where to look and which page to look up, she decides to just read the article on the answering machine until she gets cut off. (sometimes she would call back to make sure she finished the article)
I will miss my expensive PG&E bills with her request to keep the temperature at our house a cozy 84 degrees.
I will miss the daily breads coming in the mail w/ yellow sticky notes attached to the front with a hand written message from her. And in case you didn’t know my grandma could literally write 5 paragraph essays on a post-its.
I will miss her hilarious stories she told when I would call and be overwhelmed with having twins of my own, and she always reminded me that she had (and I quote) “I had the twins and your mother all under 3 by myself up in Oregon with no family around to help…and Lindsey….you know how your mother can be.”
I will miss her yellow wardrobe that always brightened a room like her sense of humor and her smile. And honestly it was just a bonus to me that she dressed my grandpa in a coordinating outfit. I will do my best to wear yellow like her, but NO ONE can pull off GOLD KEDS like she could.
The world will be dimmer without her, (but to steal Vicki’s line)…heaven will be brighter. ☺
